Put water chestnuts in a pot of water and
bring to boil.

Add sugar and cook till sugar dissolves.

Allow to simmer over very low heat.

Mix water chestnut powder with evaporated
milk.

Sift and add vegetable shortening.

Stir this mixture into simmering contents
in the pot. Remove from heat.

Pour into a greased baking tray. Steam for
1 hour.

Cut into slices when cool.

Heat a little oil in pan and pan-fry
slices till slightly brown on both sides.

Serve hot.
