Beef Steak with Bamboo Shoots Recipe

(Bo Xao Mang)

Ingredients : Serves 4

Garnishing :

4 sprigs

Groundnut oil

Garlic, finely chopped

Small red chili, finely sliced

Lean rump steak

Bamboo shoots, drained and sliced

Spring onions (scallions), finely sliced

Vietnamese fish sauce




Sesame seeds, toasted

Basil leaves

Method :
  • Heat half of the oil in a wok and fry the garlic and chili for about 30 seconds.

  • Add the steak and cook for 1 minute, then remove the meat and set aside.

  • Heat the remaining oil in the wok, add the bamboo shoots and spring onions.

  • Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Add the fish sauce and water. Bring the sauce to the boil.

  • Add the steak and any juices it has made,

  • Stir well to warm the steak through.

  • Transfer it to a warmed serving dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds and basil leaves.
