Stewed Beef Vietnamese Style Recipe

This simple-to-do dish is for first timer
who wants to learn cooking. It is cooked slowly so that meat becomes
really tender. Ingredients :

Five-spice powder
Spring onions (scallions)
Ginger root, finely sliced
Sugar
Rice wine or dry sherry
Soy sauce
Oil
Shin of beef

Method :

Cut the beef into small cubes.

Cut the onions into 1 in lengths.

Heat the wok and brown the beef before
blanching it in a pot of boiling water for a few seconds.

Pour the water away and cover with fresh
cold water.

Add onions, ginger root, five spice
powder, sugar, soy sauce, and rice wine or sherry.

Place a tight fitting lid over the pan.

Boil over high heat, then reduce the heat
and simmer gently for 3 - 4 hours.

Serve hot or cold, in whichever way
desired.
