Stewed Beef Vietnamese Style Recipe

This simple-to-do dish is for first timer who wants to learn cooking. It is cooked slowly so that meat becomes really tender.

Ingredients : Serves 4 - 5

2 tablespoons

1 kg

Five-spice powder

Spring onions (scallions)

Ginger root, finely sliced


Rice wine or dry sherry

Soy sauce


Shin of beef

Method :
  • Cut the beef into small cubes.

  • Cut the onions into 1 in lengths.

  • Heat the wok and brown the beef before blanching it in a pot of boiling water for a few seconds.

  • Pour the water away and cover with fresh cold water.

  • Add onions, ginger root, five spice powder, sugar, soy sauce, and rice wine or sherry.

  • Place a tight fitting lid over the pan.

  • Boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 3 - 4 hours.

  • Serve hot or cold, in whichever way desired.
