Sesame Seed Sauce Recipe

Ingredients : Serves

125 ml

2 tablespoons

Japanese white sesame seeds

Oil (if necessary)

Japanese soy sauce


Caster sugar

Instant dashi granules

Warm water

Method :
  • Toast the Japanese white sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat for 4 minutes, shaking the pan gently, until seeds are golden brown.

  • Remove from the pan at once to prevent burning.

  • Grind the seeds in a mortar and pestle until a paste is formed.

  • Add oil, if necessary, to assist in forming a paste.

  • Mix the paste with Japanese soy sauce, mirin, caster sugar, instant dashi granules and warm water.

  • Store, covered, in the refrigerator and use within 2 days of preparation.
